Recently I found a few plug-ins for Kompozer (the new NVU). Well, All I can say is, stay away from plug-ins for Kompozer.
What happened? I believe HandCoder and NsmCon Text create some serious issues with the html. Many of the “, ‘, and m-dashes would be broken every time I closed Kompozer. I would get the famous ? when I would open certain files. I would correct the issue, but every time those same files would have issues. Turn off HandCoder and NsmCon Text and no problem!
Are the plug-ins worth the pain? NO! Stay away. I could find no reason for the breakage in the code. Not every file did it but enough and after going through a 100+ pages looking for ?. . . well, let’s just say the plug-ins no longer reside in my version of Kompozer. . .
What everyone needs to know about plug-ins for Kompozer is,
- They can break your code! Backup your files before using any plug-ins.
- Kompozer is the new NVU and is still young, expect bugs in any plug-ins.
- Test the new plug-ins on a wide range of files to make sure they are working correctly before letting them loose.
- In my experience they are buggy. . . don’t even bother using them.
